What does it take to be a great leader? A quick search online provides the answer: There are exactly 22 qualities (according to a 3/2016 Entrepreneur article). Or is it 9 traits (Inc., 1/2014)? Could it be only 10 qualities (Forbes, 12/2012)? But wait, what about the 4 personality traits (Entrepreneur, 4/2015)?
I could go on and on but you get the idea. Everyone and their Aunt Mildred has a definitive list of what it takes to be a great leader. And some of these articles – like the aforementioned 22 qualities article – even point you in opposite directions. I’m told that great leaders are restless … yet they’re also patient. Open-minded, yet decisive. Passionate, yet stoic. Huh?
So let me solve once-and-for-all, from-now-till-the-end-of-time, the mystery of what it takes to be a great leader (cue the trumpets and violins) …
Great leaders possess and apply the traits and skills required to create and sustain impassioned, capable followers who drive desired results.
Thank you.
