Want more from your people? Then think of yourself as a Coach, not a Manager. Coaches get their people to perform at a higher level. Why? Because they take responsibility. They see it as a crucial part of their role to create the conditions that enable their people to perform at their best.
Here’s a tool to help you determine if you’re more of a Coach or more of a Manager.
WHAT TO DO:
- Read through the statements and descriptors that contrast Managers and Coaches.
- Determine whether, overall, you’ve been thinking and acting more like a Manager or a Coach. In what specific ways have you been more of a Manager? In what specific ways have you been more of a Coach?
- Identify the 1 – 3 steps you will take to become more of a Coach.
